SOMETHING old, something new, something borrowed, something… green?
Jessica Ehlers likes the old adage promising good luck to the bride on her wedding day, but she has her own advice for couples about to head down the aisle: reduce, reuse and recycle.
The 25-year-old owner of Winnipegs only green event-planning company,2011 bridesmaid dress, With a Flourish, has just celebrated three years of business in Winnipeg but would like to see more couples including eco-friendly elements in their nuptials.
“I think Winnipegs green event industry is a little bit behind bigger cities, little white wedding dresses,” admits Ehlers.
But for some couples, having a green wedding is a no-brainer.
Monika Thiessen and her partner Mike Thys will celebrate their wedding anniversary this Sunday. The couple had their wedding celebration last year, and for this eco-minded couple, green was the only way to go.
I liked that it was cool and there are art galleries around here, she says of Leslieville. I consider the store to be a bit of a gallery for dresses rather than a wedding gown shop.
Her 18-person staff work both in her studio and their nearby homes, cutting, sewing, draping and beading before Belter signs off on each dress. She ships 18 dresses a week to the U.S., where 50 stores stock her designs, party dress 2011, and her gowns are available at six stores in Canada, and three in the U.K.
Despite the resilience of the perennial strapless dress, a fixture in her newest collection, Belters retailers requested a sleeved style to satiate the Royal Wedding frenzy. And so, she is designing a dress inspired by the Duchesss sleeved Alexander McQueen for her next collection.

Friday, September 9th, 2011Planning a wedding is not a walk in the park.
There are so many decisions to be made and so many details to organize.
One of the major wedding decisions is picking colours!
While family members might help to pick colours for your traditional wedding, choosing colours for the white wedding is usually the bride’s decision.
There are several “rules” (we wonder who came up with them) that apply when it comes to choosing colours for the wedding party (bride, groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen etc…)
Today, we explore these “rules”, check out examples of brides who have broken them and YOU let us know if you would join the train and dare to break these wedding colour rules!
Last year, evening dresses 2011, my sister announced she was getting married. Her U.S. fiance is a lovely chap, who earns a high wage, so my sister no longer has to work.
The two are obviously in love and we have taken him to the heart of our family.
My husband and I lead a contented life in a small flat. Our bills are paid, we’re well fed, we have a night out a month. The only debt we have is our mortgage, plus size wedding dresses, which we’re working hard to pay off.
Financially, that’s about as far as our cash will go.
It was announced at a recent family meal that my sister will marry in New York next year. I felt my stomach drop.
I had to tell her that we simply can’t afford the flights to New York, let alone hotel, outfits and a present.
I explained that it breaks my heart not to attend her big day, but I wish her luck and hope all goes well.
Since then, she won’t return calls or emails. My mother has taken her side and forbidden my father from contacting me, too.
I’ve had every accusation thrown at me from being jealous because I couldn’t afford a big white wedding to resenting the fact my sister is a lady of leisure while I have to work. They’re all convinced that I can afford to go, but am trying to attract attention to myself — something I’d never do.
My husband wouldn’t mind me going alone, but even so I simply can’t afford it.
It’s deeply hurtful that while my sister is spending thousands on her designer dress, she simply cannot see that not everyone is in the same financial position.
Earlier this year I re-homed a small dog, and the digs have been coming about that. How can I afford the monthly pet insurance premiums and not the wedding?
The truth is my dog gives me a lot of comfort when my husband has to work away, which is quite frequently.
I find being in my dog’s company is far more rewarding than being in my mother’s and sister’s. Brutal, but honest.
Have I been cruel to my sister? Am I really so in the wrong for not wanting to run up debts just to attend a wedding?
I don’t want to turn my back on my family over something that’s trivial (in the big scheme of things), but I fear my family will turn their backs on me.
I don’t want to give in and spend money we don’t have, little white wedding dresses, but should I — to keep my family in my life?
SANDRA
Let me start by saying that I find it shocking that your mother has added fuel to the fire, instead of trying to put it out. And it’s also deeply disappointing that your father is so henpecked (yes, this theme again!) that he allows his wife to tell him what to do.
Your mother should be mediating and he should be helping; by not doing so, they are letting down both their daughters.
I wish they’d come to their senses, show maturity and help you talk this through. But you’ve written to me and so I must be honest.
Rule 1 – The bride must wear white
Note that in the bridal world, white includes off-white,classic dress 2011, ivory, prom Gowns, soft-ivory etc…
Some brides say yes! While white is the traditional choice for most brides, a growing number of brides are bucking the trend and choosing elegant colours including soft pink and icy blue. Some brides go even bolder with metallics including gold and silver while some go all out with showstopping colours such as red.
Check out Ibiso Giwa‘s beautiful pink dress from her wedding in 2009. Also see Cynthia Bailey from the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” in her amazing silver wedding dress. Finally, this stunning icy blue wedding dress from the recent Elie Saab Couture Show.
Would you dare wear another colour on your wedding day?

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011But with a guest list including the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, Prince Harry, the newly married Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and sporting stars such as former England captains Lawrence Dallaglio and Martin Johnson, the wedding will be anything but low-key.
Parvin, 44, who runs his own bridal salon in London, has the reputation for allowing a bride-to-be’s personality to shine through, rather than imposing the “signature” look of major couture houses.
With all this talk of recession and cutting back it certainly is not happening in the wedding industry. Even people with little means for other extravagant purchases look at weddings as a reason to splurge – and splurge they do.
I will admit, I was awestruck by the lavish wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Imagine what you could do if cost was no object. But I do think today’s brides and grooms often take it a step too far.
Prime example is a top of the line wedding we went to in Washington, D.C. many years ago. Every detail was perfectly planned from the designer gown, the long wedding party, white bridesmaid dresses, and the event planner choreographing every move.
No expense was spared and yet the bride and groom registered their honeymoon, to Tahiti, little white wedding dresses, on a special site that allows guests to “help” pay for the extravagant trip.
Suggested gifts ranged from breakfast in bed for the newlyweds, a scuba diving excursion, to souvenir baseball caps and t-shirts to preserve the memories. Oh, and don’t forget, classic dress 2011, a trip to Tahiti isn’t complete without a pearl necklace for the lovely bride.
What do you think about that? I thought it was tacky and tasteless. If you can afford a big, A-list wedding you should be able to afford the honeymoon, also. If not, maybe a change in venue is required.
It was the dress that catapulted Pippa Middleton, flower girl dresses, the younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge,2011 evening dress, into public consciousness. The figure-hugging, ivory gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen was custom-made and served to accentuate Pippa’s trim physique (while inadvertently putting the spotlight on her toned rear) acquiring thousands of male admirers and a ‘Rear Of The Year’ nomination along the way.
